The municipal area of Forallac is located in the Baix Empordà region (in the province of Girona), inland of the central Costa Brava area. The area was legally constituted in 1977 by the merger of the villages of Vulpellac, Fonteta and Peratallada. This move resulted in the formation of the fourth largest municipal area in the region, some 50 square kilometres in size.

The Forallac area extends broadly over the alluvial plain of the River Ter, and the verdant mountain mass of Les Gavarres, giving the area an exceptionally varied landscape. Bordered by beaches, valleys and mountains, this beautiful area also contains the rich architectural and archaeological heritage of its towns and villages.
